About Me
Updated: Apr 21, 2022
Hello! My name is Evan McAuley, and I’m so excited to be sharing my pianistic journey with you. I am a recent graduate of Ohio University, just completing my second Master’s there in Spring 2021 in Music History and Literature. I received my first Master’s there the year prior in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, after completing my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Capital University in 2018. I have been studying piano for 19 years; I started taking lessons when I was seven years old. Piano runs in my family, and after hearing my sister take lessons in the home at an early age, I decided I wanted to learn, too!
During my junior year at Capital University, I found my passion for teaching. Ever since my diagnosis of Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy at age 11, I knew that a life as an active performer wasn’t in the cards, and I was fine with that; instead, I relish the exuberance that comes from a student’s face after mastering a challenging piece or concept. Additionally, I believe that, due to my physical difficulties, I have a special niche for problem-solving acute physical and kinetic issues at the instrument.
Through my five years of teaching, I have found that my students resonate the most with the up-and-coming Piano Safari method, based out of Athens, Ohio. I was fortunate enough to work with the co-founders of the method and other professionals close to it during my time at Ohio University, and I believe it provides a complete track to help any student blossom into a well-rounded musician. You can learn more about the method at their website:

Enough about me, though. I am so ecstatic to begin posting about the music world around me! I am planning to update this blog weekly with a variety of topics: from insights on composers, to practice techniques, and so much more. Stay tuned on my Facebook and YouTube pages, and let me know if there’s any specific musical topics you’d like to see me talk about!
